OVERVIEW
Mandragore will be sponsoring its annual bicycle trek against cancer again this year. The event is open to all interested parties and each participant is encouraged to collect donations towards a cancer foundation of their choice and submit such donations directly to the foundation. Mandragore can unfortunately not facilitate donation processing.
WHEN & WHERE
We meet in Grand Central Terminal at the Information Booth on Saturday, May 26 in the Grand Hall at 5:15AM on Saturday morning. Event T-Shirts are distributed at the end of the ride. We depart at 5:30AM. For those wishing to participate but who are not confident that they can complete the 130 miles in less than 10 hours, a 50 mile leg is available starting in Hampton Bays and ending in Montauk. Optionally, you may volunteer as a chaperone in a vehicle assisting with breakdowns and carrying supplies. There is no formal route, only a suggested one, and Mandragore assumes no liability for this trek. You may ride with the pelaton (keep in mind that this is not a race) or you may sprint ahead. It is quite informal but a fun event. If a permit is obtained, a full BBQ will follow the ride at 5PM at the Theodore Roosevelt County Park in Montauk. The park will also allow cyclists (only cyclists) to camp overnight. You will need a sleeping bag and a tent for this. There are also many hotels/motels in the area but they tend to fill quickly. (Reserve now!)
RETURN
Return Transportation - Long Island Rail Road (Montauk->Penn Station is $14-$20 (varies based on on-board, station, or on-line purchase) plus $5.00 for a Cyc-n-Ride permit which is a lifetime membership and may be obtained through http://www.mta.info/lirr/pubs/bicyclep.htm.)
If you are interested in participating or for full details, please E-Mail biketrek2007@mandragore.com. We'd love volunteers!
